Bear!

 12th august part 2

We’ve been looking out for a bear (or a moose, caribou, elk, etc) the whole time we’ve been here… this evening, after dropping our bags in the room, I headed off to find the laundry.

I asked at reception and got directions. However, I turned the corner of the building and maybe 10-12 people were there with cameras. So I asked and a German guy told me that there’s a black bear eating berries just there… (about 10m away) a real black bear. Really. A bear. A real live bear. Probably not fully grown - when it was on its back legs it stood maybe 5 or 6ft tall. But still a bear. 

I watched the bear nibbling berries from the trees for a while then messaged Kathy and headed cautiously to the laundry. When I left the laundry, people shouted at me to stop because the bear was just by the side of the laundry building… 😱 I retreated slightly and they got the bear to go away using sticks and shouting. The bear wandered around the other side of the building and Alana and Kathy arrived to see it. Alana’s head has exploded!

Unfortunately as I was mid-laundry I didn’t have my camera… this is the best I could do.
